HARDWARE: SANDISK WiFi Card Delayed AGAIN As I have taken it upon myself to closely monitor the SanDisk WiFi Card and it's Palm driver release, here is my latest release on the continuing saga. The interesting part will be when they finally do release the drivers, will they even be right? So, here's the latest scoop from SanDisk:
SanDisk's highly-anticipated Palm OS drivers for its Wi-Fi SD card will not now ship until Q1 2004, the company has confirmed.
A recent report on PDA-watching web site InfoSync World suggested that the drivers had been delayed until December.
Originally scheduled for a summer release, SanDisk's Palm OS 5 drivers were in August put back to November. The card is already shipping with Windows Mobile 2003 and Pocket PC 2002 drivers.
At the same time, the card's Palm OS 4.1 drivers were earmarked in for an October release - they have now been canned altogether, a company spokesman told The Register.
"We still plan to offer a driver for Palm OS 5.x but we've had to move it back to Q1 timeframe due to a number of technical and non-technical reasons," he added.
When the drivers ship, they will be available from the SanDisk web site. ®

HARDWARE: Hot off the press - Preview images of Proporta's Tungsten E aluminium case

Proporta is proud to announce the newest addition to their long line of aluminium cases.
The new Proporta Tungsten E aluminium case has been beautifully designed to provide maximum protection with effortless style. Made from 100% aircraft-grade anodised aluminium, this case has been custom made following Proporta's strict design policies, to fit all contours of the PDA. A thin layer of neoprene lines the case to add further protection to the Tungsten E whilst also preventing scratches from metal to metal contact.
Individual cutouts provide the user with easy access to all features of the device without sacrificing protection or usability. The Tungsten E case also includes space for two individual memory cards.

As the Tungsten E aluminium case is not yet available, Proporta are currently holding a 'Neoprene While You Wait' offer which in effect provides the customer with two cases for the price of one. By placing an order now, Proporta will provide the customer with a soft neoprene case now to protect their Tungsten E until the aluminium cases are ready. The best part is you get to keep both.

As always, all Proporta purchases are covered by their "never-argue" money-back guarantee. If for any reason, or no reason at all, you are not completely happy, Proporta will refund you in full.

HARDWARE: Since Palm Addict is giving away the PROPORTA PROBACKUP this weekend, what better time then now for my Pro BackUp review. OK, here it is: IT IS GREAT AND I LOVE IT. Tune in next week when I review the entire Palm line up in one paragraph.
OK, now back to reality. The ProBackUp by Proporta is a truely simple system to backup your PALM. And that is EXACTLY what backing up should be. An operation that anyone can do, whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced Palm user. How often we hear the horror stories of lost DATA due to theft or hardware failure. And then, you see the mad scramble of that individual buying every piece of hardware and software for doing a BackUp, that we all know, is a day late. " I learned my lesson, daily backups for me from now on!" It is kinda like putting on a bulletproof vest after you've been shot, sure it will stop the next bullet, but unfortunately your already "deceased" now. Proportas Pro BackUp is probably the easiest way to backup your Palm that I have ever seen or heard of. Simply pop in the provided MMC/SD Memory card (available in 32 or 64 MEG Sizes) into the Palm's Memory Slot and up pops 2 pushbuttons on your Palm's screen, BACKUP and RESTORE. You don't even have to load any software, the complete backup program is on the card and configured to run automatically. Then you select which operation you wish to perform, BACKUP or RESTORE, push the appropriate button and then watch the On-Screen Progress Bar indicating the status of the Backup or Restore. When done, you remove your ProBackup card from your Palm, and you are done. And that is it. So imagine, let us say that your beloved PALM was accidently run over by a Abrahams tank (and we all know how likely that could be in the company parking lot) All the personal and corporate DATA of magnanimous proportion is gone. BUT WAIT! You won the Proporta ProBackup from Palm Addict last month and did a backup. You wipe your brow and take an early lunch break. You sneak off to the local Palm dealer and get that new Tungston T3 you wanted anyway. You head back to the office and open up your new T3 (for this scenario the T3 came fully charged from Palm, in case you geek types wanna start emailing me "But you need to charge it!") and fire it up. After the initial setup of the new Palm, you need only install the Proporta ProBackup Card and hit RESTORE. In a few minutes, your new Palm T3 is a complete clone of your destroyed Palm from this morning. Every contact, every program, every file is right where it is supposed to be. Also, should you not have a computer nearby, remember, the ProBackup is self contained, you don't even need a computer to restore the backup. As long as you have the ProBackup and a charged Palm you are ready to restore! And that Ladies and Gentleman, is hard to put a price on. Proporta's ProBackup, in my opinion, is a must have accessory for your Palm. And remember "It's So Simple Your Mum Could Do It!"

HARDWARE: PROPORTA RELEASES ROLL UP PDA KEYBOARD Well this one I must say I just plain like. Great concept. "It's my pleasure to introduce Proporta's latest addition, the 'Roll Up Keyboard', says Chloe, Proporta's Sales Manager. "This unique and innovative product is extremely simple to install and a pleasure to work with. Whilst being incredibly lightweight and very durable, its flexible body allows the user to store and carry the keyboard in its compact accompanying carrying case,"adds Chloe.
The pack includes 3 different connectors making it compatible with leading Palm and iPAQ handhelds. The keyboard measures 230mm x 80mm (9in x 3.14in) making it a comfortable size to work with. NOTE: Sammy has had one of these to evaluate, so be looking for his in depth report and review. Preliminary reports indicate this keyboard may be seeing lots of places in "Sammy's World", so stay tuned! To See More of Proporta's New and Innovative Accessories for Your PDA CLICK HERE

SOFTWARE: The Battle of The Outlook Synchers, Chapura's KeySuite vs. DataViz Beyond Contacts One of the more common questions from new and old Palm owners alike, is how they can best and most effectively integrate their Palm PDA with their desktop computer. And the most important iinterface in that scenario is usually how to synchronize their contacts and appointments, which lie in the Windows contact manager, scheduling program/calendar and EMAIL client, OUTLOOK. OUTLOOK has been adopted by the masses to perform these functions, and we simply want to have that information at our fingertips. Enter the Palm PDA. In the past, there has been a myriad of attempts at designing conduits and mapping software, all designed to take your OUTLOOK information from one device and simply moving them, insynch, to the other and vice versa. Thus, all we wanted was to simply make sure that our appointments and contact info on the desktop computer, would always be on the Palm and the other way around. Sounds easy enough right? Wrong!!! It has always been an uphill battle. Biggest issue was the fact that both platforms, PC and Palm, have data fields that the other doesn't. This leads to lost data and missed appointments. So in short, synching programs have come and they have gone. One program would do one part of the equation well, and would be weak on the other. Little idiosynchracies always popped up when trying to have repetetive appointments, or time zone issues or, you get the point. In short, we made do, but new it wasn't quite right. Well now it appears that we have two products, that are as close as we can get at present.
Chapura Software KeySuite and DataViz Beyond Contacts are two products whose features include, amongst others, the ability to share your Outlook Information between your desktop PC and your Palm. How well do they do this? Good question. PC World magazine takes a good look at both programs and lets you decide for yourself which program best suits your needs.

HARDWARE: PROPORTA has been kind enough to give us a sneak preview of their new Aluminum Case for the Tungston T3. Chloe, Proporta Sales Mgr, has asked us to show our viewers these advanced pictures and to thank everyone for waiting. "We appreciate our customers' patience with our efforts to make and design a custom-fit case for the T3, and we're sure they'll be pleased with the end result," says Chloe. "We are expecting to ship within 2-3 weeks and our 'Neoprene While-You-Wait' deal is still on offer until then (this means you get two cases for the price of an aluminium case)."
Proporta has always been excellent with their program of shipping a Neoprene case for buyers that purchase the case prior to release. Keeps your unit protected while you wait, and then becomes a nice spare once your new Aluminum arrives. In my opinion, its a heck of a deal being you get two cases for the same price as the Aluminum case after it's released. (Something about me and FREE!)
